Eating breakfast is such an indication as to how well you will get through the day. Do you feel like by afternoon you are ready for that nap or you can barely get yourself moving in the late morning ??? Chances are you are either skipping breakfast or not taking it seriously enough! Sure, life should be simple and eating breakfast should not be some insane quest to cook and create a masterpiece every day … but indeed should be nutritious! A healthy breakfast has been proven to give you more energy and control weight gain or even weight loss, and who doesn't want to feel their very best ALL day long ? Eating a healthy breakfast can be many different ideas … such as fresh fruit on the go, a bowl of greek yogurt or steel cut oats paired with fresh fruits, seeds or nuts! There are many ways to make these two bowls the most delightful way to start your day and feel great all day long !
Need another reason to enjoy a bowl of oatmeal this morning ??? How about the benefits it can have on your heart ! Eating oatmeal can lower your cholesterol, especially your LDL, or "bad" cholesterol. Oatmeal is a whole grain, and eating whole grains can lower your risk for several diseases, including high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Oatmeal also contains lignans, a plant chemical that has been found to prevent heart disease. The food label on your package of oats should list one ingredient: whole grain oats. Avoid prepackaged oatmeal that may be high in both sodium and sugar and lower in beneficial fiber. It is recommended to eat whole grains to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, whole grains such as oats are a good source of iron, magnesium and B vitamins. Oatmeal is also a source of fiber, that means when you eat oats for breakfast … you're going to feel full for a longer time. Breakfast foods high in sugar and fat can make you feel full for a brief period, but then you're hungry again within a few hours.
If you've tried oatmeal before and didn't like it, reconsider !
Combining fruit or nuts with your oats while they're cooking adds more nutrients. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg give great flavor to your oats. Limit any sugars and let the natural flavor of the fruits and spices take over. You will be pleasantly surprised when you realize how good fresh fruits, seeds and nuts taste in your bowl of oats ! You can even blend your oats with different fruits into a healthy oatmeal smoothie.
Because oatmeal is such a beneficial food, try to find a different way to eat it every day.
Ok, moving on … maybe your not convinced about eating oatmeal every day, but what about all those other healthy options ??? Get creative with those eggs and veggies! Bring that Greek yogurt to life with it's live cultures and add some raw honey and walnuts to put a healthy sweet spin on your morning ! Keep whole ingredients handy and mix and match until you find that one perfect combination that makes you want to get out of bed 15 minutes earlier just so you can enjoy that morning meal ! The most important idea here is …
EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST EVERY DAY !
